ABOUT THEM:
Marcel et son Orchestre / Marcel and his Orchestra hail from the Boulogne-sur-Mer commune in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in the north of France near the border with Belgium. This zany, camp and glam inspired hard working ska/rock band have been performing for over 20 years until they split in 2012. They formed in a basement in 1986 and have remained as a 7 piece lineup ever since (which member changes throughout their career). Although they took a light hearted approach to their careers (being in it more for the fun rather than having any real expectations of success), their many, many gigs across France eventually brought the band some local success in their native France.
The band toured Canada in the early 90's and kept the touring costs down by camping in tents, gaining a slight foothold there. And later in their career they had also toured throughout Europe, Senegal and Reunion Island, In 1996 the band released their first album, and to the delight of their many fans, released another 11 studio albums over the next 15 years, whilst still maintaining their solid touring schedule across France. Over time the band had a series of lineup changes with a few core musicians who have been their since the early days such as the band's leader Mouloud (songwriter & percussionist), who is the only remaining original member of the band.
In 2012, Mouloud announced the end of the band and they went out with a bang via a series a concerts across France.
