ABOUT THEM:
Leningrad is a Russian Ska Punk band composed of 14 members that appeared in the Russian music scene in the late 1990s. They soon became famous for their vulgar lyrics containing obscenity, aestheticization of alcoholism and a lot of 'Russian Mat' ( term for strong obscene profanity in Russian and some other Slavic language communities). This was the main reason they were avoided by most Russian radio stations at first, but this did not stop Leningrad's growing popularity, partly because of the rich brass sound. The band made their way to radio and TV in its later years (with radio using filler noises covering the prohibited words), with lead singer Sergey "Shnur" Shnurov even presenting some New Year's Eve TV shows.
At around 2007 the group began experimenting with female backing vocals, finally chose tall redhead jazz singer Yuliya Kogan as a permanent participant.
They disbanded in 2008, but Leningrad reunited again in 2010. Since then several new songs and videos have been released since, most of them featuring lead vocals by Kogan, not Shnur.
